Singapore’s Chinatown sparkled with shimmering lights and vibrant lanterns in celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival, which took place on 6th October 2025. All across Singapore, colourful displays featuring beloved symbols such as rabbits and the full moon added to the festive cheer. Organised by the Chinatown Festival Committee and officiated by Josephine Teo, Minister for Digital Development and Information and Minister-in-charge of Cyber Security and the Smart Nation Initiative, the Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival 2025 brought the city to life with festive decorations, cultural showcases and community activities from 7th September to 20th October. This joyous celebration of the annual harvest season offered the perfect opportunity to revel in art, culture and togetherness.

This year’s theme, “60 Glorious Years: Celebrating Mid-Autumn in Singapore,” highlighted not only the nation’s remarkable progress through the decades but also the unity and rich traditions of its diverse communities. During the Mid-Autumn Festival, Singapore transformed into a lively spectacle — streets were adorned with glowing lanterns, mooncake stalls lined the walkways and cultural performances brought joy to all. A heartwarming festive spirit filled the air as families came together to celebrate, relatives exchanged thoughtful hampers and friends gathered to enjoy captivating traditional dances across the Lion City.

The festival’s main highlight was the Street Light-Up and Opening Ceremony, a dazzling spectacle that immersed visitors in a kaleidoscope of colours and glowing lanterns. The Chinatown Street Light-Up and Ceremonial Opening 2025 was truly a must-see event. Adding to the excitement was the lively Festive Street Bazaar, where visitors wandered through rows of bustling stalls offeringsweet mooncakes, fragrant teas, fresh fruits and more.

Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival 2025 offered visitors a vibrant mix of activities, fairs, competitions and cultural showcases throughout the celebration period. The Mid-Autumn Fair at Chinatown Point (September 22–October 5) delighted visitors with everything from traditional mooncakes and ginseng tea to modern games and treats. A stunning 8-metre-tall centrepiecefeaturing the number 60, surrounded by rabbits, mooncakes, orchids and lanterns, that symbolised beauty, harmony and reunion.

Across Chinatown, streets came alive with glowing moon palaces, golden lanterns, lotus flowers and depictions of Chang’e, the Lady in the Moon, rising above rooftops. Illuminated dividers showcased local icons such as the dragon playground, blending heritage with creativity.

Beyond the dazzling displays, the festival featured the Chinatown Festive Fair (from 7th September to 6th October), a Lantern Design Competition, tea appreciation events and a commemorative stamp launch. The highlight was the mass lantern walk and live performances on 27th September, filling the streets with light and festivity. Closing the celebrations, a Lantern Adoption Programme (from 13th to 20th October) promoted sustainability by allowing visitors to bring home lanterns — a fitting finale to a festival that celebrated culture, community and togetherness.
